Hello Spring!

Welcome back! Hopefully everyone had a great spring break and has been enjoying the nice weather while it lasts. Our theme this month is Spring! Check out the fun things we have going on in our classrooms:

In the Rainbow room, the kids have an opportunity to dress up in rain coats and rain boots and jump in "puddles"! The Easter nest as been quite the hit, in particular the bubble wrap that is at the bottom. We also have hidden Easter eggs around the classrooms so kids can go on an Easter egg hunt.

The Sunroom is our Bug Room. Some of the activities include: making a bug house out of lego, pretending to be bugs and crawling through a maze, playing a bug inspired twister game and going on a picnic!

In the Tree Room, you will find a little flower shop where the kids can "plant" flowers as well as pretend to buy or sell them. There is also a gardening inspired tactile table and a spring cleaning area where the kids are able to vacuum and sweep or draw on the window with window crayons and then wipe it off with water and a cloth.

Time for T

Yesterday, during Letter Time the focus was on the Letter T!  The kids went on a letter scavenger hunt looking for letter T's that were hidden around the classroom. Then they made a tree craft on their tummies.

Letter Time ended with reading the alphabet book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Check out this animated version:

March is Food Month!

This month it's all about FOOD! The are lots of fun toys and activities for the kids to explore and play with. The highlights this month are the introduction of our very own grocery store, bakery and McDonalds! All three have been a huge success. We have also brought back our kitchen set, I have already been lucky enough to have been made pizza for breakfast by one of our kiddos!

We also have a variety of activities related to Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham! Some of the activities include:
- matching
- egg relay races
- rhyming words
- tic tac toe game

There has been lots of interest in the new sensory bins, particularly the St. Patrick themed rice bin!

Another fun addition to the classroom is the life sized version of the game Greedy Gorilla. When you feed the gorilla food he burps! This game is great for working on categories, requesting, receptive and expressive identification and turn taking.

Roller Skating at Lloyd's

Yesterday afternoon we went roller skating at Lloyd's! The kids did so well, almost everyone tried roller skating. Some of the kids kept them on the whole time while the majority of them took them off and then ran around and danced to the music. It was a lot of fun for all of us and so great to see so many smiling faces. We had a few tears but for the most part it was a very successful outing!

Valentine's Party

Yesterday we had a fun filled day at STA, we celebrated Valentine's Day early with the kids!

The kids had an opportunity to decorate cupcakes or gluten free chocolate brownies!

They also had an opportunity to make some Valentine's crafts - a heart fish or a heart penguin.

As an extra treat, we put on a short Valentine's video in the rainbow room!

All Aboard...it's Transportation Month!

In the Rainbow Room you can find the big car ramp and a variety of vehicles. As well as the box cars the children can wear and either walk around in or ride on a scooter in the hallways.

In the Sun Room, the hot wheels ramp is set up on the wall, we have an ocean set up in the corner with a boat and paddles. Children have the opportunity to pretend to go fishing or dress up as pirates. We also have a bunch of blocks and boxes for the children to build ramps or make tunnels or build a city.

The Tree Room has the art easel set up with red and white paint for Valentine's day. The sensory bin contains moon sand and construction vehicles. As well our West Jet Airplane has made a return!

In the Gym, Tina our OT Assistant set up a fabulous Valentine's inspired obstacle course.
